Kids R Weird!

We hung out today with our 4-year-old great-niece, Summer. She kept us entertained all day doing wacky things like this:

Anyone remember the days of the Unknown Comic on The Gong Show? So funny. Oh and I think she is going to grow up to be a waitress. Her favorite thing to do all day long was take our order for food and drink. She'd ask us "What would you like?" Whatever we'd ask for she'd say, "Sorry, we don't have that." When we'd ask her what exactly the "restaurant" did have, she'd phhfftt! and say "Read the menu!!" Uhhhh. . .oKAY!

New Addition!

Meet BillyBob our new used, 4wheeler. . .

Got him to make getting around on the roads up at the cabin a little easier on us! We are going to put Artie in one of those arm rest containers when we go moseying around! This should be interesting to say the least. Can't wait.

Bountiful Harvest

We went through the garden today after work and got quite a payload for dinner tonight. J made a fabulous dinner of steak Gorgonzola that rivaled any restaurant entree I've ordered. He also whipped up ratatouille of our own garden harvested zukes, onions and chili peppers and added a store bought tomato (ours aren't ripe yet). The fingerling potatoes were to DIE for and melted in our mouths. J slightly boiled then pan fried whole with a tiny bit of butter & salt. Wow. Superb!

There is something to be said about growing and eating your own food that makes it taste so much better!! Also something to be said about a spouse who is great at cooking said food we "growed"! Thank you, Honey! You are such an awesome chef! SMOOOOOOOCH!

First Hike of Summer of 2009

We have been working so hard on the cabin every weekend we've been up there that we haven't had time to do ANY hiking except for the last time we were up there. We made time to do a small 6 mile round-trip hike to Deep Lake, which is on the back side of Brown's Peak for those of you in the know. We had a wonderful time and encountered a porcupine (in a good way) and saw lots of flora & fauna along the way. Here are those picts documenting the moments.

Really cool mushrooms are growing like crazy up there.
These are poisonious. . .just sayin'. Don't eat them.
Here's me and Art-man bushwackin' thru the meadow
(BEFORE I fell in the stupid river)

Here's me drying off my socks & shoes once we made it to the lake.
I thought this was a pretty setting with the trees all around.
Good job, J, on the picture taking.

Deep Lake. Just like the sign says.
Very isolated. We saw only 2 other people up there fishing.
Niiiice.

Deep Lake with Luke looking across the waters.

Ah, we hope to get more hiking in while we're up there the next 4 weekends in a row. However, we still have tons of work to do on the cabin shack. Hopefully next year will prove more fruitful in the hiking and fishing departments!

How Does Our Garden Grow?

. . . apparently with all this rain, the garden grows very well! Except my zucchini. Those just aren't producing like normal. Usually we are up to our earballs in zucchini!!

Here are some picts of what *is* actually growing -- check it out!

White hollyhock. Purdy flower.

Raspberry colored hollyhock. There were a bunch of beez doing their thang with this right before I snapped the pict. I really wanted to get them in it because you know they are disappearing, don't you? I am glad I saw the bees. Whew!

Big, fat green tomatos. Let's hope they ripen before the first frost in two weeks. ha ha. As I was looking at this pict, I was wondering how anything grows in this ground with the tons of rock in the soil. Sheesh!

Here's my insane flower bed and my insane puppy, Artie.
He's fixin to bark at something at the end of the yard.
See how he's standing all at attention?

The secret, ancient dojo (or whatever I called it in the other post) is practically
hidden in the jungle of wild daisy things. The plants to the right
aren't blooming yet, but will be soon in case you were interested
(and I *know* you were! wink, wink!)

To make this post a little more interesting, here is the post at the beginning of the spring/summer when we first started growing the stuff. So I guess this would be the link to the BEFORE pictures! http://jakldays.blogspot.com/2009/05/springs-garden-makeover-pt-3.html

Again, hope you enjoyed!

Moose. . .Meese? Anyway More of Them!

Okay, because I *know* you're just dying to see more of the pictures we retrieved from our wildlife cam: moose1 I'll post these. These pictures are pretty interesting though. Judge for yourself. And leave comments, would ya?
This first picture freaked me out a bit.
I couldn't quite make out what it was. . .
Looks like a human head, tilted to the left.
Really not a human head, but a freaky ZOMBIE head tiled to the left
with a weird ear sticking out on the right.
Just waiting to jump up turn around and eat our face off!!!
(okay, I know, I know I've watched way too many horror movies when I was young and
it warped my measley brain!)

BUT never fear!! The "head" turned out to be the rear of this feller:

And yet a better picture of the same visitor.

Flash didn't seem to phase him.

Awesome pict of this moose cow on our "walkin' log". Goofy lookin' critters but so amazing at the same time.

This one looks a lot like a Clydesdale, don'tcha think? Not sure if it's the same cow or not.

That's all the wildlife pictures til next time. Hopefully, we'll have other species to post for you! Hope you really enjoyed these!

Slacker City Blues

Hello everyone! I have been a mucho slacker on our little blog here as of late. So, I thought I'd just post a butt-load of pictures in multiple posts with minimal captions and call it good for a couple days. I hope you all bear with me here until I get back on a regular schedule. Until then, let the picture madness begin. . .
